I am always grateful when I get the opportunity to give back to my profession and to our association that does so much to make sure our profession continues to thrive!

This weekend was filled @bcdoctorsofoptometry related activities.

On Saturday, we partnered with the Killarney Youth Soccer Association during their season kick off. We spoke with parents to share information about the importance of children’s eye exams and eye health.

Given that I grew up playing soccer at Killarney, this was an extra special collaboration for me 🙏🏼

On Sunday, I was honoured to speak beside my wonderful friend at colleague @ilukateyes at the BCDO New Grad Bootcamp. Dr. Luk and I shared insights about how to create a fulfilling career as an optometrist.

It’s one thing to love what you do. It’s another to be so passionate that you create entirely new opportunities for yourself and those who come after you. We are fortunate to be in a profession that allows us to explore these new opportunities!

Huge thanks to the whole amazing team at BCDO for supporting new grads, raising public awareness, and overall making optometry in BC better!

Love these special mentor moments! 🙏🏼

In early 2021, I did a webinar for pre-optometry students across Canada. One of the students on that call was @_kp_95.

After the webinar, KP reached out to ask if I would mentor him. We stayed in touch as he worked his way through his optometry school applications.

Later that year, KP happened to be in Vancouver so we had a chance to meet in person. I encouraged KP to apply to whichever school he was aiming for, even if he wasn’t sure he’d get in.

This week, KP was back in Vancouver for vacation with his family and he did me the great honour of stopping by @clarity.eyecare to say hello.

Oh by the way… KP got into @uwoptometry (his first choice) that year. He’s now half way to becoming an OD and is making his family (and his mentor) proud! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
